Most Brazilian stocks gained as homebuilder Direcional Engenharia SA (DIRR3) reported an increase in annual sales, overshadowing concern higher borrowing costs will sap demand for equities.
Retailer Cia. Brasileira de Distribuicao Grupo Pao de Acucar climbed after it reported growth in fourth-quarter sales. Bus maker Marcopolo SA (POMO4) rose after JPMorgan Chase & Co. raised it to the equivalent of buy.
The Ibovespa added 0.2 percent to 49,779.43 at 10:55 a.m. in Sao Paulo, with 43 stocks rising and 25 falling. The real strengthened 0.2 percent to 2.3538 per U.S. dollar. Direcional gained 1.9 percent to 11.21 reais after saying booked sales increased 17 percent in 2013.
